Kainen Shamar

This is a portrait of one of my favorite characters from the manhwa (Korean comic) Masca by Kim Young Hee. He is a Belliar, an immortal person often called a Demon Lord, who lives in the region of Sivilla. He's had so many names over his 15,000 years he doesn't bother with any in particular and let's anyone he likes give him a name to use. A young mage, Asarella, gives him the name Kainen Shamar, which means "promise keeper." As it so happens, Kainen and the other Belliars make a point to keep their promises.

I would just like you to know that Kim Young Hee gave Kainen this odd piercing. I decided to stay true to Kainen's character. Kim's costumes are one of the things I like about Masca. They are unique and imaginative, if sometimes a bit peculiar, and she spends a lot of thought on what her characters wear. I believe this costume design is something Kim would have Kainen wear in the manhwa. I could have covered the piercing, but Kainen rarely ever does and it is one of his most prominent features.
